about

It’s 1975, the cafes, bars and pavements of Flinders Lane in Melbourne are practically sewn together with the hustle and bustle of the Ragtrade.

Deals are being penned anywhere a paper napkin can be found. Fashion designers are scrawling down their latest inspirations in the corners of smoke-filled bars. The textile and fashion industry brings a buzz into the hearts and minds of those who walk its streets.

This is where Garrick Newton and Lionel Aarons founded Texlink International, a textile agency representing various companies throughout the world to help bring the worlds latest fashion fabrics to Australia.

Garrick Newton, 1975

Fast forward to 1998 and Garrick is the sole owner of Texlink. Flinders Lane is no longer the heart and soul of Melbourne’s ragtrade and Garrick’s son, Michael, at the age of 22, has just joined the business and is learning the trade.

In 2002, Garrick retires and Michael takes over the business. The industry is going through many changes with most garment manufacturing moving offshore. Michael has to make many decisions regarding the future direction of the business and steer the company through unknown waters.

Over the next decade, whilst maintaining business in women’s fashion fabrics, such as Prints, Silks, Jacquards, and Knits, Michael develops new business opportunities in industries such as Bridal & Haute Couture, European Laces & Embroideries, as well as fabrics for Home Furnishings and products for the Camping & Outdoor industries.

With contacts in all major textile producing countries, Texlink has developed extensive technical knowledge of fabrics and the textile industry on a worldwide scale.

Texlink represent companies all over the world who design and produce world class fabrics, with an emphasis on Silks, Cottons, Linens, Jacquard, Brocade, Lace, Embroidery and Swimwear fabrics, as well as printing services on all kinds of base fabrics.

We are an advocate for environmental standards and practices, and request that all mills producing
our orders provide a number of environmental certificates.

Texlink’s professionalism and experience has enabled us to work with many of Australia’s leading fashion designers, who are revered both locally and internationally for their attention to quality and design.
